Great Maps, Poor Backward Compatibility, UPDATE 1/1/08: I just got a Mac after always previously using Windows. Great news - when I installed this 4.0 software, not only did a good job, but also corrected the two most serious objections I previously had with it. Now I have no problems importing waypoints from my Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx, and the software is now compatible with all countries myself from the previous Version 3 software. I do not know if this is unique to Mac or now works well with Windows, but when I did the installation, it automatically went to the website of National Geographic and downloaded a software update. I still give 4 stars because some of the other standard user interface options, but these are fairly easy to adjust. I have not changed the rest of the review, so keep this update in mind when reading.

Pretty Good Tool, I was a bit 'surprised that no written (hard copy) instructions supplied with the product, but it was not too bad to understand.
I have a Palm III (2MB of memory) and my biggest concern was how much space it would take the cards. My first test was on a visit to the site of a friend in a suburb of Minneapolis, and it worked very well (map size was about 300k). The map, and easily downloaded to my Palm, and Palm user interface (to zoom, move, etc. on paper) is very well designed.
Conclusion: I would recommend your product to whoever asks me.

Great Mapping Tool, I recently purchased this software to assist walking paths designed for use with my Garmin GPS Map60CSx. It took only a few minutes to learn, and I found it easy to create routes and waypoints. The integration with the GPS receiver was perfect and the pictures are beautiful. You can create profiles of altitude, see your route in 3D animation, and the server MapXchange National Geographic helps you find locations and download from the Web to work with this software. You must check and run the software update in order to supplement the mapping with newer receivers, but it was neither difficult nor problematic. Recall that you can not copy the maps on your GPS - only routes and waypoints. This software is very expensive for the limited coverage. I also have the Garmin MapSource Topo, which the United States on 3 CDs for about the same price. But there's really no comparison - you get what you pay for. With National Geographic, you can get maps of high quality and excellent user interface. I think it is easier to use software from National Geographic with my Garmin receiver, rather than just product of Garmin.

My 1st TOPO Experience, We just bought in U.S. TOPO 2008 DVD and it was easy to install and even easier to navigate in the maps we need. We live in Hawaii and my husband has recently bought the Garmin Astro dog collar and has benefited much of the product. When we bought the DVD, did exactly what he had hoped, gave more detail and be able to go home and review what he has done on our computer. A perfect pair … I'm excited because the next family trip to the States we know that we will not need a map and there will be no time to lose!

Usgs Topo Maps, happy w / program, easy to use, but when I printed the manual was unreadable and index pages were not numbered.this my program is the first card, so you have nothing to compare with —-

The maps even show roads in cemeteries in the middle of nowhere. After speaking w/ Garmin it requires downloading an interface or you can buy the DVD/CD version and transfer from a PC to the unit.
